Yunnan Sunshine Road & Bridge Co., Ltd. was originally the engineering team of the Highway Administration Bureau of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Transportation. It was established in April 1956 and is one of the earliest highway construction teams in Yunnan Province and the first professional construction team for paving asphalt pavement. After several mergers and changes, it was renamed Yunnan Fifth Highway Engineering Office in January 1982. In 2001, it was restructured in a separate way. While retaining the establishment of the Yunnan Fifth Highway Engineering Office as a public institution, it newly registered and established Yunnan Fifth Highway and Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd. In response to the decision-making and deployment of the provincial party committee and government, according to the notice of the Yunnan Provincial People's Government on the "Opinions on the Transfer of Enterprises Affiliated to the Provincial Department of Transportation to Local Management" (Yun Zhengfa [2002] No. 133), it was transferred from the Provincial Department of Transportation to Kunming City for local management on November 28, 2002. In accordance with the requirements of Several Opinions of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government on Deepening the Reform of State-owned Enterprises (Yunfa [2002] No. 3) and the Implementation Opinions of the Kunming Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Kunming Municipal People's Government on Further Deepening the Reform of State-owned Enterprises (Kunfa [2002] No. 4), it was restructured into Yunnan Sunshine Road and Bridge Co., Ltd. in March 2005.

After more than 60 years of inheritance and development, the company's registered capital is 303.63 million yuan. The company has first-class qualification for general contracting of highway engineering construction, first-class qualification for professional contracting of roadbed, pavement, bridge and earthwork engineering, second-class qualification for professional contracting of tunnel engineering, special qualifications such as ready-mixed commercial concrete, testing and inspection, housing construction, railway, mining, municipal administration, water conservancy and hydropower engineering, and the right to operate foreign economic cooperation business and a complete standardized management system. It is the first professional construction company in Yunnan Province to pass the international certification of quality, environment and occupational safety and health management system at the same time.

The company has more than 1,100 sets of large and medium-sized complete sets of machinery and equipment with international advanced level, and its annual construction capacity reaches more than 5 billion yuan. The company has built more than 6,400 kilometers of roads of various grades, including more than 2,500 kilometers of high-grade roads. The company's footprints have spread across all prefectures (cities) and counties in Yunnan Province, Hebei, Qinghai, Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jilin and other provinces and regions, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Niger, Laos, Vietnam, Nepal, Mongolia, Pakistan, Myanmar and other countries. The projects undertaken by the company have won the second prize of the Ministry of Excellence, the National Quality Engineering Silver Award, the Gold Award, the Luban Award, the Li Chun Award, the Zhan Tianyou Award, etc.
