The Decree of Rectory No. 558 of February 2, 1972 promulgated the creation of the Center for Computing and Information Sciences at the Catholic University of Valparaíso and this was incorporated into the Faculty of Engineering, through the Decree of Organic Rectory No. 134 of the June 2, 1981.

The agreement No. 12/82 of the Superior Council of the University, in order to transform the Center for Computer Science and Information in the School of Computer Engineering, is materialized with the promulgation of the Decree of Organic Academic Rectory No. 160 of 30 September 1982, which creates the aforementioned Academic Unit, which must assume the functions of the Center for Computer and Information Sciences.
