In 1875, in the midst of Japan's greatest period of modernization, the Shimadzu Corporation was founded in Kyoto.

It all started with Genzo Shimadzu Senior, the second son of a Buddhist altar builder who made physical and chemical instruments. Later, Shimadzu Corporation grew significantly under the leadership of Genzo's eldest son, Genzo Junior, who went down in Japanese history as a great talent and inventor.
Progressive and ahead of its time, Shimadzu has walked this path hand in hand with science and has become a leading technology company.
The corporate philosophy "Promoting society through science and technology" has been passed on to each new generation of employees and is now lived globally throughout the Shimadzu Group.
