About
After the discovery of the first oil well in the country, in the Springhill sector, in Magallanes, on December 29, 1945, the State of Chile set out to create the National Petroleum Company, whose foundation officially occurred on June 19, 1950. , with the publication of Law No. 9,618. The discovery of oil in Springhill was made by the team of explorers headed by the engineer Eduardo Simian Gallet, and gave way to new drilling of wells that were producers. In this way, the team headed by Simian recommended to the Production Development Corporation (Corfo) the creation of ENAP, to commercially exploit the deposits discovered in Magallanes.
One of the first goals that the nascent company set for itself was to build an oil refinery in the country, a task that culminated in 1954, with the start-up of the Concón Oil Refinery (today the Aconcagua Refinery). Then, in 1959, the first logistics facilities for the storage and distribution of refined fuels were built in Maipú and, the following year, the Gregorio maritime terminal, in Magallanes.
In 1962, the Cullen Gasoline Plant (Magallanes) came into operation, to continue in 1966 with the inauguration of the second refinery in the country, located in the Eighth Region (today the Bio Bío Refinery) and the construction of the polyduct from this Refinery to San Fernando, in the Sixth Region. From this city, this pipeline connects with another managed by the company Sonacol, which transports fuel to the Storage Plant located in Maipú, in the Metropolitan Region.
In 1981 ENAP integrated the logistics business, with storage plants for liquid and gaseous fuels in Maipú, San Fernando and Linares. Currently, this activity is carried out through the Storage and Pipelines Department, which belongs to the subsidiary Enap Refinerías SA
On January 1, 2004, the refineries were merged into a single company: Enap Refinerías SA
In 1990, ENAP founded the Sociedad Internacional Petrolera SA, to explore and exploit hydrocarbon deposits abroad. Starting in 2005, this subsidiary was renamed Enap Sipetrol SA
In the Magallanes area, ENAP exploits hydrocarbon deposits with commercial value and provides oil and port logistics services to important clients that operate in the energy sector. In addition, in recent years it has undertaken a strong exploration campaign for new gas reserves in Magallanes, at the same time that it has established new alliances with other companies to diversify energy sources in the country.
