Dar Agro Processing Ltd

A 100% subsidiary of DAR Capital, DAR Agro Processing Uganda Limited (DAP) is a privately held, legally registered Ugandan agricultural and processing focused company. The 3800-acre DAP plantation is located approximately 140 kilometers north of Kampala in Nakaseke district, near the village of Kinyogoga.

DAP has been in operation in Uganda since July of 2010 and currently has approximately 1,500 acres of maize planted, which makes the company one of the largest commercial farmers in East Africa. By January 2013, the company will have over 3000 acres under cultivation producing about 18,000 metric tons of corn annually. One of the most advanced and mechanized farming operations in the region, DAP has also invested in an on-site milling operation and a state-of-the-art silo facility at the farm to store grain and flour. The company has also inked a buy-back agreement with one of the largest beverage groups in the world for 50-60 per cent of its flour production. It is also undertaking joint R&D with the same group on new crops including sorghum and cassava.

At its nursery and laboratory in Uganda, DAP is also conducting research on several other sunrise crops including Stevia.

DAP is currently in the process of acquiring an additional 3000 acres of land in the vicinity for a second farm. Taking into account the huge growth potential the global food industry offers, DAP is focusing on setting up large commercial farms and processing operations in Eastern and Southern Africa as well. It is currently negotiating for farms in Mozambique, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mallawi and Zambia.
