ARCN - Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria

The Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) supervises and coordinates the research activities of all Nigeria’s National Agricultural Research Institutes (NARIs).

In a previous form, ACRN was first established in 1903 when the Agricultural Department was opened in South Nigeria and another regional department was then established in 1912 to be responsible for Northern Nigeria before both merged in 1914.

Since then the department has developed infrastructure and created new research stations whose work mainly focuses on Nigeria’s most exported crops. 

ARCN identifies existing limitations and recommends strategies for more effective research in order to ensure agricultural progress with the main goal being to generate appropriate technologies and policies to ensure productivity and profitability in a competitive agricultural market.
