About

After the dissolution of the International Jute Organisation, a new International Jute Study Group (IJSG) was formed in 2002 to which Bangladesh, the European Union, India and Switzerland signed up although Switzerland left later that year. The states that remain in the IJSG account for roughly 60% of global jute trade.

The IJSG is a state-led intergovernmental body that serves as the international commodities board for jute, kenaf and related fibers and serves as a sub-committee of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Its main purpose is to make sure transparency in the worldwide jute and kenaf trade.
