About

Columbia Basin Trust supports the ideas and efforts of the people in the Columbia Basin.

We take our lead from residents and communities. Whatever the situation calls for, we adapt our role: from providing resources, to bringing people together, to leading an entire initiative. The Trust is here to offer experience and support to all Basin residents.

Columbia Basin Trust works toward a long-term vision for the future where:

  • The Columbia River Basin is a place where social, environmental, and economic well-being is fostered.
  • Collaborative relationships and partnerships are established across the Basin.
  • A healthy environment is the basis for social and economic activities.
  • The economy of the Basin is diverse, resilient and energized.

Columbia Basin Trust is a regional development organization created to support the social, economic, and environmental well‑being of communities within the Columbia Basin. Established to steward long‑term benefits for residents, the Trust works collaboratively with local partners to strengthen community resilience, enhance quality of life, and ensure that Basin resources are managed for enduring public value.

Its work spans a broad range of community‑driven priorities, including sustainable economic development, environmental stewardship, climate resilience, community services, arts and culture, youth engagement, affordable housing, and social well‑being. The Trust provides funding, expertise, and strategic programming that help communities plan, build capacity, and implement initiatives responding to local needs.

Its geographic scope is explicitly limited to the Columbia Basin region in British Columbia, where it delivers programs, grants, and partnerships across the communities located within this defined area.

The Trust supports local governments, nonprofit organizations, Indigenous communities and Nations, community groups, social enterprises, and other region‑based entities working to address local priorities. Its partnership‑oriented approach ensures that support flows to organizations with strong community roots and the ability to deliver lasting regional impact.

Funding and support are provided through a mix of annual programs, multi‑year initiatives, strategic investments, and ongoing community partnerships. This combination allows for both stable long‑term commitments and flexible responses to emerging needs, ensuring continuity in regional development and sustained support for the communities of the Columbia Basin.
