TCPS was established on January 1, 2015 under the project of the European Union Turkey Delegation and the Open Society Foundation, which has the name of the "Turkish Prison Information Network" of the Civil Society Association in the Penal Execution System.

In addition to working in a civil society organization, the founders are academically productive in the field of closure and think of TCPS as an intersection between academia and civil society in the field of closure / prisons.
