Academy of Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management

ADREM consists of the MOE Key Laboratory of Environmental Change and Natural Disasters, the State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, and 6 field

experiment bases. It focuses its research and education programs on natural disasters, natural resources, and global climate change. ADREM has natural disaster science and natural

resource science as its pillar disciplines, and engages in research and education in integrated disaster prevention and reduction, risk governance, rational and efficient use of natural

resources, patterns of and adaptation to global environmental change, and earth observation technologies within the disciplines of physical geography, natural resource

science, global environmental change, geographic information science, disaster risk science, disaster prevention and reduction engineering, and geographical information technology.

ADREM has five doctorial programs (in physical geography, cartography and geographic information science, natural resources, global environmental change, and natural disasters) and 8

master’s programs (in physical geography, cartography and geographic information science, natural resources, global environmental natural disasters, soil and water conservation and

desertification control, disaster prevention/mitigation and protection engineering, and mapping and geographical information technology). ADREM enrolls 266 postgraduates among which 90

are doctoral students and 176 are master’s students.

OUR AIMS:

1. Set up Paradigms for Disaster Reduction and Integrated Disaster Risk Management in Typical High Risk Regions.

2. Develop a Disaster Emergency Protocol Simulation System.

3. Develop natural disaster monitoring system and disaster-reduction ability evaluation system.

4. Develop a Comprehensive System of Policies and Regulations Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management.

5. Construct an National Educational and Training Center on Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management of China.
