About
Sailing is health and a way of life - it accompanies every activity carried out in our Club. We place particular emphasis on educating children and adolescents through sailing and making them independent through sailing. We carry out this mission every day, adding all the joy we have in sailing, just because we love sailing and see the good it brings.
The Horn Kraków Sailing Club was founded out of the sailing passion and determination of the marriage of Ziutka and Andrzej Ogrodnik. Both can boast of great successes. Ziutka is, among others, medalist of the Polish Women's Championships in the finn class of 1976, while Andrzej is the winner of many competitions in the cadet class, 420, 470, Finn, Europa cat. Masters. Over time, sailing became the driving force of their entire lives.
At the beginning, they passed the sailing bug to their children, but their inexhaustible energy and belief that sailing can change the life of every human being led to the creation of the Student Sailing Club Horn. It was registered on October 21, 1999, in the UKS register in the Krakow Commune by Andrzej and Ziutka Ogrodników and their friends.
The first boat - an UKS optimist - was sponsored by the SIKA company from Warsaw. He hugged us to his AZS marina - a club where Ziutka grew up as a sailor. We were there until the end of 2002.
A good club must have: its home, i.e. a marina, equipment on which it will be possible to sail, a coaching motorboat to ensure the safety of competitors, a trailer, a bus to go to regattas and training camps.
March 17, 2003, prof. Jacek Majchrowski - who was just starting his presidential office in Krakow - signed the historic decision for Horn to grant us the present site. We started practically from scratch, with a piece of beautiful land on Lake Bagry. In 2005, the cornerstone was laid for the marina. For five years we have been intensively building and developing the marina and its facilities, we have equipped the club with the best quality equipment. Finally, in January 2010, we received an occupancy permit for the entire complex. We also changed the name of the Club to the Horn Kraków Sailing Club.
We are constantly doing something for the marina, for the Bagrians, so that every Krakow knows this geographical center. The first class of water purity, the winds - most often eastern and western, make you feel like in Masuria - while being in the center of the city. Regatta, integration swimming, sailing promotion, sailing and ecological workshops - all to show how nice contact with nature can be achieved by sailing. In Krakow, it is still sailing with history in the background after all. From here it is already a close way to explore the world on a sailing route.
In the history of the Club, we have many families for whom sailing, just like in the case of the Club's founders, has become a way of life. Often, children learn sailing from the beginning, while parents improve their skills. One example of such a family is Paweł and Ewa and their two sons. Paweł, today a yacht captain, has probably already traveled the whole world, and Ewa - a yacht helmsman, recently celebrated the receipt of her patent. They spend all their free time at sea on the Nashachata yacht.
We already have thousands of trained new sailing adepts behind us. They try their hand at the beginning in Masuria, on the Vistula, some go to the sea right away, just like our pupil called the Sea Shogun (the name given to him at sea baptism). It started innocently with a sailing course, after two months he passed the exam and set off with us on the first cruise to Gibraltar. Over the next few weeks, he passed Biskay and watched sea creatures in Antarctica. Of course, his plans include other interesting places on Earth. During breaks between cruises, he obtained a license for a yacht sea helmsman. It's just power.
Such examples could be multiplied countless. For the vast majority of people in our Club, this first small step, which is joining the Club, becomes a quantum leap in their lives. It turns out that soon our pupils start exploring the world or triumph in competitions in Poland and abroad. In this way, they keep writing a very, very colorful and interesting history of the Club.
