About
The Bilbao Rugby University is a Spanish rugby team from the city of Bilbao (Vizcaya), it is currently known as Valtecsa UBR because of its largest sponsor, the Valtecsa company.
The Universitario Bilbao Rugby is a club that was born in 2000 from the union of the Bilbao Rugby Club and Universitario Rugby Taldea clubs. The history of Bilbao rugby has six teams from the town, but from the 1990sseveral of them are forced to disappear, leaving only the university and Bilbao. In the year 2000, after many meetings, the directors of both teams decided to undertake the merger of the two clubs, giving way to what at that time was called the UPV / EHU University Bilbao, where in that same season he was promoted to first category. national division. With the promotion of category came the new name of the club that was renamed Universitario Bilbao Rugby, which would remain in the national division until the 2005-06 season, which was downgraded, but would be recovered five years later. There have been several ups and downs of category.
In 2016, after a successful promotion campaign, the Bilbao University promoted the women's team.
In 2018, the club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a program full of various events, including an exhibition at the Basque museum on the history of the club.
