Communities In Schools of Central Texas surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s largest and most effective dropout prevention organization. For more than 40 years, Communities In Schools has been helping students achieve in school, graduate and go on to bright futures.

Our school-based staff work directly on 96 elementary, middle and high school campuses in Central Texas. In addition to providing individual student support, they work to provide whole school supports, helping ensure school environments are safe and inclusive for all students.

Communities In Schools believes that transformative relationships are key to unlocking a student’s potential. We will succeed by including in our strategies, ingraining in our culture, and reflecting in our behaviors, principles and practices of diversity, equity and inclusion. As a result, we break down immediate and systemic barriers to create and sustain equitable outcomes.

What We Do

Many students and their families have a hard time accessing and navigating the maze of public and private services. There may be ample resources in a community, but rarely is there someone on the ground who is able to connect these resources with the schools and students that need them most. Our school-based Program Managers bring community resources into schools to empower success for all students by removing barriers for students at risk of dropping out, keeping kids in schools and on the path to graduation and leveraging evidence, relationships and local resources to drive results.
