L’Autorità di Distretto delle Alpi Orientali (Eastern Alps District Authority)

With the provisions of the Consolidated Law on environmental matters, the Italian territory has been divided into eight hydrographic districts. The District Basin Authority, hereinafter the District Authority, is established in each River Basin District.

The District Authority carries out planning activities necessary for hydrogeological defense, for the creation of hazard and risk maps, for the protection of water resources and aquatic environments.

The Eastern Alps District Authority operates on the catchment areas in the Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto regions, in the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano, as well as on some cross-border basins on the border with Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.

The District Authorities provide:

• the elaboration of the District Basin Plan,
• to express an opinion on the consistency with the objectives of the Basin Plan of community, national, regional and local plans and programs relating to soil protection, the fight against desertification, water protection and water resources management,
• the development of an analysis of the characteristics of the district, an examination of the impact of human activities on the state of surface waters and the state of groundwater, as well as an economic analysis of water use.
