About

SAT is a regional NGO with over two decades of regional programming and a host of successful, sustainable NGO partners behind it. Formed in 1990, SAT is registered as a non-profit organisation in six southern African countries and has a regional coordinating office in South Africa. SAT supports communities via country offices, country programmes or directly via regional programming.

SAT supports innovative interventions, facilitate dialogue & advocacy for key SRHR changes and contribute to improving the availability and increased usefulness of health and gender data. Our strategy Comprehensive, Equitable and Inclusive: Girls, Adolescents and Young Women in Systems for Health 2016 -2021 underpinned by our Theory of Change which describes what SAT will do, how this will bring about change and how this change will contribute to the ultimate goal.

At the centre of our Theory of Change is the system’s strengthening approach demonstrating how SAT operates in each of its strategy areas by identifying the bottlenecks of access to equitable and inclusive health systems (know your communities); identifying low cost but high impact solutions (invest for impact); mobilizing relevant stakeholders (mobilize for change) and institutions (engage and improve services); and a continuous learning process in order to adapt to the new environment and challenges (learn, monitor and evaluate).

Throughout this approach, SAT will promote 4 key enabling factors: inclusive and equitable health systems; gender equity and equality; civil participation and democracy and data democratisation.
