About
The Royal Dutch Medical Association (RDMA) is the professional organization for Dutch doctors. It was established in 1849. Since 1999 the RDMA has become a federation of medical practitioners’ professional associations.
The RDMA has been leading the way for Dutch doctors and health care in the Netherlands. Why? The answer is actually very simple: to ensure that doctors can provide the best possible care.
For 170 years, the RDMA has been supporting Dutch doctors and health care through efforts such as:
- enhancing the quality of the profession by training and (re)registering doctors, providing peer support and creating codes of conduct;
- assisting doctors with ethical and legal dilemmas, including euthanasia for reasons of dementia as well as addiction among doctors;
- offering support by sharing practice-based dilemmas, issuing guidelines and offering a forum for improving health care;
- taking the lead in important areas for instance the promotion of public health;
- promoting the immaterial interests of over 65,000 doctors and medical students, to allow them to provide adequate care.
