CIBM, Interuniversity Center for Marine Biology and Applied Ecology "G. Bacci "of Livorno, is an association of private non-profit law, established by the City of Livorno, the University of Bologna, Florence, Modena, Pisa, Siena, Turin and Cagliari in 1967. It is recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture , Food and Forestry, as a scientific institute engaged in the fisheries and oceanography sector (DM No. 339, December 22, 1979) and has been registered since 1983 in the National Research Register of the Ministry of Education, University and Research.

The CIBM carries out the environmental investigations necessary for the construction of dredging, installation of cables and pipelines, construction of piers, dams, coastal nourishment, analysis of pollutants, studies and assessments of environmental impact, management of fish resources, marine protected areas , etc.
