Galaxy Backbone PLC

Galaxy Backbone PLC is an Information and Communications Technology Services provider, wholly owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

 Galaxy Backbone PLC was established in 2006 by the Federal Government based on the need for Government to pursue a coordinated and harmonized approach to information and communications technology acquisition, operation and use in the public sector. The intent for the establishment of Galaxy Backbone was, therefore, to enable the Federal Government derive more value from its investments in information and communication technology by eliminating duplication, establishing economies of scale, enhancing interoperability of systems and improving Government’s capacity to deliver electronic services.

 Since commencing operations in 2007, Galaxy has leveraged its mandate to build a common services platform consisting of in-country and offshore VSAT hubs, a datacenter, Federal Capital metro fiber backbone and multiple redundant internet gateways. From this platform, Galaxy is growing its coverage of public institutions nationwide and currently connects about 4,000 locations spread across various parts of Nigeria representing over 350 Ministries Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government.

 Galaxy Backbone continues to operate, improve and upgrade its common services platform to meet international standards. Galaxy Backbone recently received ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification for its Information Security Management System.
