About

The SecDev Foundation is a Canadian-based think-do tank that works globally to strengthen the digital resilience of vulnerable communities and organizations, with a special focus on women, youth and civil society groups.

From small beginnings, we have grown rapidly. Our on-the-ground programming, partners and field staff now extend across the Middle East and North Africa, Eurasia, and South East Asia. In more challenging environments -- like protracted conflicts and fragile contexts -- we have developed a special reputation for delivering effective digital emergency response, while strengthening the longer term digital safety and well-being of non-violent citizens and small, at-risk Civil Society Organizations. In more stable contexts, we work with partners to pioneer methods to help societies better navigate the emerging risks and opportunities of the global digital economy, which is founded on savvy and safe digital citizens. We are currently developing innovative responses to the challenges of online gender-based violence in difficult contexts, including through preventative community based action and digital safety training; we are also pioneering youth-led approaches to preventing and re-dressing online mis-and dis-information in war-affected communities.

Our work has been/is supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Grand Challenges Canada, The Global Peace and Security Fund, The Stability Network, the Public International Law and Policy Group, Centre for Victims of Trauma, American Bar Association and governments and donors in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
