Municipality of Ventspils (Latvia)

Ventspils Municipality (Latvian: Ventspils novads) is a municipality in Courland, Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2009 by merging Piltene town, Ance Parish, Jūrkalne Parish, Piltene rural community (from 2010 Piltene Parish), Pope Parish, Puze Parish, Tārgale Parish, Ugāle Parish, Usma Parish, Užava Parish, Vārve Parish, Ziras Parish and Zlēkas Parish. It is administered from Ventspils city, which is not included within its limits. The population in 2020 was 10,824.

The local government of Ventspils region consists of the municipal decision-making body elected by the residents of Ventspils region - the Ventspils regional council and the executive institutions created by it.

The council makes decisions, determines the structure of the municipality's operation, decides on the implementation of its functions and initiatives and on the procedure for ensuring the performance of the state administration functions and tasks delegated to the municipality, develops, controls and executes the municipality's budget. The municipal council of Ventspils region, according to its competence, is responsible for the legal activities of municipal institutions and the use of financial resources. It organizes its work in compliance with the laws of the Republic of Lithuania, the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers, the By-laws of the Municipality of Ventspils Region No. 19 adopted on September 12, 2013 and other regulatory acts. The Ventspils County Council was established in 2009, according to the Republic City Council and County Council Election Law, it consists of 15 members.
