GUK was established in 1993 for socio-economic development of the ultra poor & poor people of Bangladesh under dynamic leadership of it's founder Executive Director Dr. Khandaker Alamgir Hossain.

GUK have been providing finance, education, technical support and market linkage for income generating activities of the under-privileged people of the country through its more than 350 field offices in 56 districts of Bangladesh.
Main activities of GUK includes microfinance program, primary health care program, non-formal primary education program, eye care services through GUK Eye Hospital, micro-enterprise development, green energy using solar system, legal aid services, livelihoods development program etc.
