The Institute for Resource Efficiency and Energy Strategies (IREES) conducts interdisciplinary research into sustainable resource use and focuses mainly on energy and material efficiency and low emission production processes. IREES examines research and development possibilities as well as technology options and their economic and social impacts, conflicting objectives and relevant innovation and diffusion policies.

Because of the wide range of expertise, methods and data sources required IREES works very closely with a variety of partners, especially with the Fraunhofer ISI (Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research) in Karlsruhe.

IREES GmbH was originally founded as BSR Sustainability GmbH on 1 January 2006 and officially changed its name to IREES on 1 July 2009.
