About

The Frantz Fanon Association (AFF), founded in Turin in 1997, brings together professionals with different backgrounds (psychologists, psychiatrists, cultural mediators, educators, cultural anthropologists) united by an interest in the themes of health, migration and culture and committed in the development of clinical interventions in the field of mental health of migrants.
Our working group takes its name from the martinique psychiatrist who, in his works and clinical practice, had questioned not only the relationship between culture, psychopathology and treatment but also the complex relationship between European and African societies within the dynamics of violence typical of the colonial situation. Having chosen his name has meant wanting to situate both research and our clinical practice in a theoretical framework that recognizes the centrality of the cultures to which they belong, but also the importance of historical, social and economic contexts: a precise commitment, therefore, in the consider the role and effects of the particular power relationships that always underlie those of meaning.
