About
The Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) represents a Kenyan government organization founded in 1979 to guide the development of the Kerio Valley region. The organization is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing development initiatives in the area. It is one of Kenya's six Regional Development Authorities, established by an Act of Parliament CAP 441 with the goal of, among other things, launching, planning, and evaluating resources across the Kerio River basin.
In accordance with its mission, KVDA began work on an Integrated Regional Development Master Plan (IRDMP) 2013-2033, which evaluates resources in the region and provides guidelines for optimal usage, with the aim of improving lifestyles in the region. Some of its essential functions include: launching initiatives to help alleviate poverty, promoting surface water irrigation and preservation, resource mobilization and efficiency improvement in the use of resources, providing water for both household and livestock use, enhancing natural resource management and utilization, and encouraging the regeneration of damaged land.
