The State Polygraphic Institute was founded in 1928 and acquired the Mint section fifty years later, in 1978. In 2002 the State Polygraphic and Mint Institute became an SpA, with the Ministry of Economy and Finance as the sole shareholder.

IPZS is a world famous brand, expression of today's made in Italy: creative and manual skills are implemented by the most sophisticated technological applications, to guarantee quality and safety for Public Administration and Private individuals. The Institute is one of the most significant industrial realities in Rome where there are the headquarters, the Officina Carte Valori, the factories on via Salaria and via Gino Capponi, the historic building in via Principe Umberto, where the School is located. of the Art and of the Medal. IPZS also has a production plant in Foggia and a recently established one in Verrès (AO).
