About
Callund Consulting Limited (CCL)
Callund Consulting Limited was established in 1975, and is an independent firm of economists, actuaries and consultants, providing dedicated advice to governments and industry on pensions and wider social security issues.
CCL is a private limited liability company registered in the UK, originally established in 1975 under the name ‘Callund & Company Limited’. Its name was changed to ‘Callund Consulting Limited’ in 1993. The company consists of a core team of professionals, all of whom are highly qualified leaders in the field of international pensions and social security, and many are heavily involved in supporting the work of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) in the UK. CCL also has a team of associates with whom they have a long history of collaboration. Our approach is to partner our own experienced key personnel with high-quality consultants that have the right skill set and experience to deliver assignments and provide advice as required.
In our experience, our consultants have been active in the whole pension reform cycle, the review of pension laws and regulatory frameworks, performing actuarial valuations, developing mortality tables and assumption development, scenario modelling and pension reform advice and more.
Actuarial and financial projection simulation and modelling are essential elements of CCL’s work. CCL has developed its own sophisticated financial projection model, which can be adapted to test the implications of any basis of social security and social insurance, provision and expectations. CCL has also been involved in capacity building and training of institutional staff in the administration and regulation of public pension systems.
Fundamental to our advice is CCL’s focus on the financial and supervisory implications of proposed social security and social insurance, reforms – for government budgets, regulatory bodies, employers and workers, and individual retirement-income expectations – in transition and in the long term.
Worldwide experience
CCL have a unique international perspective, having worked in more than 50 countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Central, South and Eastern Asia, the Pacific Islands, Latin America, the Caribbean, and North America.
We are currently working in Mauritius, Abu Dhabi, and Mongolia and have just completed projects in Uganda, Bhutan and Palau. We have extensive experience in Africa, where we have worked over the years.
Experience in working with International Financial Institutions
Our clients are primarily governments in transition, governmental organizations, development aid agencies and developing economies; and our work is often supported by international institutions and development agencies. For example, we have worked with the World Bank in Uganda, Kenya, Russia, Serbia, the East African Community region, Macedonia, Bosnia and the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Asian Development Bank in Tajikistan, Bhutan, Palau and Indonesia. We have also worked with the African Development Bank in Tunisia and in Cote d’Ivoire.
Therefore, we have experience working on projects for The World Bank, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) now part of FDCO, The European Union, The Africa Development Bank, The Asia Development Bank and other donors, where we have applied proven methodologies and implemented successful knowledge transfer programs, and regularly speak at industry events.
Africa experience
CCL has been working in Africa for over two decades, with two Callund Directors based on the continent – Rosemary S Nantambi Bstat (Hons), PgDip (Act Sci), DipIEB, based in Kampala, Uganda and Laura Llewellyn-Jones BSc (Hons), FIA based in Lagos, Nigeria. CCL has extensive experience providing actuarial, pensions, long-term savings, investment and social security reform advice in developing and transition countries, particularly in Africa.
CCL has worked directly with many African governments.
