BirdLife Austria is a partner of BirdLife International, the world\'s largest active network of nature and bird protection organizations, with over 2.7 million members in 120 countries.

BirdLife Austria is committed to the bird and nature protection in Austria and across borders. BirdLife Austria realized science-based nature and bird conservation projects in four key areas:

  • Species protection.
  • Protection Areas (SPAs, IBAs, Natura 2000).
  • Secure habitat.
  • Awareness-raising and lobbying.

BirdLife Austria makes since being launched in 1950 with extensive research projects and studies such as the Red List of Birds of Austria (Fruehauf 2005) or the breeding bird atlas (Dvorak et al., 1993) a significant contribution to the study and preservation of the Austrian biodiversity.

A major part of the work of BirdLife Austria provide studies on the implementation of the Birds Directive and the Natura 2000 network in Austria dar.

Guided birding trips at home and abroad for members as well as hands-on activities to experience for bird lovers as \"The Hour of winter birds\", \"Bird Race\" or bird migration at the European BirdWatchDay complement the BirdLife Austria program.
