About
UNAMG is an organization with a long history of struggle that began in 1976, when a group of women from the left made the decision to lay the foundations for their constitution. This process involved a long period of awareness, training and organization, working with women residents of neighborhoods located on the margins of Guatemala City. The Foundation Assembly was held on March 8, 1980, with the presence of Q'eqchíes women from Alta Verapaz, university professionals and students from Guatemala and Quetzaltenango, in total 300 women participated. During the 80s members of UNAMG, they went into exile due to political repression.
The foundational objective of the organization remained after the signing of the Peace Accords, in 1997, at which stage the reconstruction of UNAMG in Guatemala begins. From the moment of reconstruction and subsequently the consolidation stage, the organization has set out as a priority objective to contribute to the strengthening of the collective political subject as women, the women's movement.
