Vietnam now has 90 percent of HIV patients enrolled in Social Health Insurance. SHI funds are now used to procure anti-retroviral drugs, the most expensive component of an HIV response.

Abt support to:

Strengthen capacity of the Government of Vietnam to identify and implement strategies that mobilize domestic resources for the health sector, including intensified public financial management systems, improved efficiency of the social health insurance scheme, and increased domestic financing for HIV prevention and treatment services
Ensure a continuous supply of best value, quality HIV and TB commodities by advocating and supporting for SHI coverage of these commodities, and strengthening the procurement and management capacity to ensure uninterrupted supply chain, thus improving health outcomes
Integrate TB services into Vietnam’s social health insurance scheme to increase access
