The French Environment Institute (IFEN) is a former national service of the French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Planning , established in 1991 .It was "dissolved by a decree published in the Official Journal November 29, 2008" and replaced by a new service observation and statistics (SOeS) responsible for collecting and shaping the statistics on themes"housing and construction, transport, energy and climate, the environment, sustainable development" in the General Commission for Sustainable Development of the Department of Ecology.The IFEN was also the referent corresponding France of the European Environment Agency , responsible in particular for the assessment and observation of the environment in Europe.
