About
Ethiopia's capital city, Addis Ababa, is home to the Fichaa Sugar Factory. The industries in which the company primarily operates are sugar and molasses.
Ethiopia's current sugar industry began at Wonji in 1951, located 110 kilometers east of the country's capital, Addis Ababa, as a share company founded by overseas private investors and the Ethiopian government. At that point, the H.V.A. Company from the Netherlands had become a foreign shareholder in this industry.
When the facility was opened in 1954, it produced 140 tons of sugar per day. Initially, the firm had 5000 hectares of land for sugarcane farming.
Today, the company’s mission is to develop cutting-edge technology and employ skilled human resources to enhance the sector's national capacity. By doing so, it aims to produce sugar, sugar by-products, and co-products to meet the domestic market's demand and contribute to the nation's economic development.
