Taking action to support the transition to food solidarity
Set up in 2000, the Carrefour Foundation works for the general interest by taking action to support the solidarity food transition in France and around the world.
Its work is carried out through three programs: sustainable community agriculture, raising awareness of the need to reduce waste, and societal commitment. The Foundation aims to make the Carrefour Group’s Act for Food programme a reality and make healthy, high quality and sustainably-produced food more accessible.
Sustainable and socially conscious agriculture
To recognise farmers’ work and meet consumers’ expectations, we encourage the adoption of sustainable agricultural models, such as the integration of organic practices or agroecology. We also support urban agriculture as part of our inclusive, environmentally-minded approach.
Solidarity-based anti-waste
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), 1.3 billion tonnes of food are thrown away every year internationally. Recovering unsold produce is therefore essential. By supporting recovery networks, we are addressing solidarity issues and helping struggling communities to eat better.
Citizen engagement
We encourage professional and citizen-led initiatives that work to provide a better diet for everyone. We also support scientific research in order to better understand the effects of food on the human body, as well as citizen-led projects related to the major social and environmental issues we are currently facing.
