About
CBI was established initially in Durban in 1944, when Walter Campbell, retired Durban City Engineer, and Mark Bernstein formed a partnership which Hugh Irving joined in 1950. The Partnership, Campbell Bernstein & Irving continued until 2004 when it was restructured to form CBI Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd. At that time, equity in the company was extended to include eight senior staff members, three of whom were previously disadvantaged.
In 2002, CBI entered into a Joint Venture with Arup South Africa, and Arup's Durban staff have shared offices with CBI for most of the subsequent period.
CBI provides an integrated multi-professional service and is therefore able to carry out complete and varied projects within its own organisation.
