About

ABOUT US
The Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT) is the employer's association that brings together and represents the national accommodation sector as a whole, including hotels, tourist apartments, campsites, resorts, spas and other modalities.

CEHAT brings together 51 national, provincial, regional, local and sectoral associations and is present in all the autonomous communities of our country. The employers' association therefore represents more than 16,000 establishments with a total of 1,800,000 jobs and employs 500,000 people directly and indirectly.

It was established on January 1, 2004 , as a result of the merger between the Spanish Federation of Hotels (FEH) and the Hotel Association of the Tourist Areas of Spain (ZONTUR) . Until 2004, the FEH, founded in 1977, and ZONTUR, founded in 1980, separately represented the interests of businessmen in the Spanish accommodation sector, dividing the national territory into two different areas. On the one hand, ZONTUR brought together holiday tourism accommodation located throughout the Mediterranean area, from Catalonia to Andalusia and the Canary and Balearic archipelagos. On the other, the Spanish Federation of Hotels represented the rest of the Spanish territory, encompassing the largest cities and mainland Spain.

CEHAT was born in this way with the spirit of creating a united, consolidated and increasingly stronger accommodation sector, which stands as the fundamental axis of tourism and as one of the main engines of the economy in Spain . Since then, the Confederation has acted as an interlocutor for the sector in Spain , promoting development, employment and innovation in the industry.

The first president of the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodations was D. José Guillermo Díaz Montañés , who created the Hotel Technology Institute (ITH) in 2005. In 2007, he succeeded him in the position of president of CEHAT and ITH D. Juan Molas Marcellés , who unanimously renewed the position in successive terms until 2019. Since December 2019, Mr. Jorge Marichal González has served as president of CEHAT .
