CONICYT - Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica

The National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research is an autonomous and functionally decentralized corporation, with its own assets and legal personality under Public Law, intended to advise the President of the Republic in the
planning of scientific and technological development.

It has three major objectives: (a) strengthen the country's scientific and technological base; (b) promote the formation of advanced human capital; and (c) promote a scientific and technological culture in the population.

Mission

Its organic statute states that CONICYT will advise the President of the Republic in the planning of scientific and technological development, will promote and encourage science and technology in Chile, preferably directing them towards the economic and social development of the country.

CONICYT Council

The superior direction of the commission will correspond to its Council. The Council's main mission is to advise the Presidency of the Republic in establishing the national science and technology policy, and in the formulation of the national plan for scientific and technological development.

President of the Council

The President of the Council is the one who directs the collegiate body in the formulation of the scientific and technological development plan. In addition, he is the one who represents CONICYT in national and international events of a scientific and technological nature and before the institutions or organizations before which the Commission must be represented for the fulfillment of its purposes.

Executive Director

The Executive Director is the senior manager of the service and the management and administration of the service falls on him. It is responsible for executing the Council's agreements, as well as presenting to the latter, in agreement with its President, the CONICYT Budget Project and carrying out its execution. In general, it corresponds to execute all kinds of legal acts, contracts or conventions, whatever their nature, for the fulfillment of the purposes of the Service.
