About
The State Ministry for Regional Development (SMR) is a supreme state authority of the Free State of Saxony based in the state capital of Dresden. It was founded in 2019 with the formation of the Kretschmer II cabinet. Like the Saxon State Chancellery, the ministry is located at Archivstrasse 1 in Dresden. When the Ministry of State was founded on December 20, 2019, Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer appointed Thomas Schmidt as Minister of State and Frank Pfeil as State Secretary. On the same day, the cabinet in the Saxon state parliamentsworn. On July 1, 2022, Frank Pfeil became State Secretary in the State Ministry of the Interior. His successor is Barbara Meyer.
The Saxon State Ministry for Regional Development deals in five departments with the topics of promoting rural areas, structural development in Saxony, regional development and surveying routes as well as construction, urban development and housing. It is the first ministry of this kind in Germany.
