Parish council of Cölbe

Cölbe with its about 7000 inhabitants consists of six districts, most of which have preserved a rural character. To the south it borders directly the university town of Marburg in the Mittelhessischen Bergland, a low mountain range in the middle of Germany, and to the north - the Burgwald, one of the largest woods in Germany. Niestetal and Baunatal lie about 60 km to the north.

The Council of Cölbe resolved upon the implementation of \\\"100% renewable energy until 2040\\\", according to the integrated climate protection concept (Klimaxx), which was carried out in 2008-2010 in cooperation with the adjacent communities. Furthermore, Coelbe is a member of the Hessian project \\\"100 communities for climate protection\\\". On several municipal properties there are solar systems with public participation, the biggest is a solar power station covering up to 10% of the electrical energy demand of Coelbe.

In 2012 a village cooperative in Schoenstadt, one of the districts of Coelbe with 1600 inhabitants, build a heat grid, using the capacities of the already existing wood chip power plant of the local saw mill and supplying 80% of the buildings in the village with heat. Coelbe is also the location of the solar company Wagner Solar.
