Gunnar Klo AS

Gunnar Klo is a fishing industry company in Myre og Stø, Øksnes municipality in Nordland county.

Gunnar Klo AS was established in 1909 in the fishing village of Nyksund by Oluf Klo. In Nyksund, fish were bought for the production of salt and dried fish for export. In 1952, the business moved to Myre. Gunnar Eilif Johan Klo and later his son Gunnar Henry Jarl Klo further developed the company to what it is today. In the early 1980s, Gunnar Klo AS bought the fish factory at Stø, which is on the north side of Langøya in Øksnes. Fiskeværet Stø is close to an attractive fishing field, and today Stø is an important reception station for the company. Production of dry fish takes place at Stø in good, natural conditions.

Gunnar Klo AS processes white fish, including fillets, fresh fish, salted fish and dry fish. Production of saltfish is in collaboration with Myre Saltfish Group AS.

The fish we produce is fresh and of high quality, which is supplied by the coastal fleet, mainly longliners and trolling boats, as well as seine seines.

Gunnar Klo AS is approved by MSC for cod, pollock, haddock, ling, tusk and roe biscuits. The company is also approved by the environmental labels Krav in Sweden and Debio in Norway for cod and haddock.

Gunnar Klo AS is one of the largest private employers in Øksnes municipality, and focuses on both social and environmental responsibility. The company has 58 employees and many have extensive experience in seafood production.

In 1987, the aquaculture company Øyfisk AS was established, and is a subsidiary of Gunnar Klo AS. The company has five licenses for farming salmon and trout.
