Indigenous Lawyers Association of India (ILAI) established in 2020 is a platform of the lawyers belonging to indigenous peoples in India seeking to strengthen the enforcement of existing rights of indigenous peoples and enhance the rights and jurisprudence on the rights of indigenous peoples in the country. ILAI conducts research and advocacy on issues and situations; provides legal opinion on issues relating to the rights of indigenous peoples; intervenes with judicial and quasi-judicial procedures on the violations of the rights of indigenous peoples; enhances capacity of indigenous lawyers with particular focus on indigenous women; and promotes the rights of indigenous peoples including providing inputs on laws/ regulations/ orders being drafted/enacted by the Government of India or the State governments. It also engages with the UN human rights mechanisms as appropriate.
