Orte is an Italian town of 8 969 inhabitants in the province of Viterbo in Lazio. It is a road and railway junction located on the north-south and east-west crossroads of central Italy. Geographically in the Tiber Valley, the territory of the municipality of Orte is affected by phenomena of secondary volcanism. The sulphurous thermal waters of the Capannelle (so called from the huts built above the pools, present until the construction of the swimming pool, today Terme di Orte) and the solfataras around the Fosso della Penna are the main manifestations. The city is rich in natural springs, which have been an important public resource in the past.
