About
Újszilvás is a village in Pest county, Cegléd district. It is located in the middle of Hungary, between the Danube and the Tisza, on the Gerje-Perje plain, in the immediate vicinity of the Tápió region, the Hatvani plain and the Jászság, in the southern part of Pest County. Ethnographically, it belongs to Tápióment. The village, surrounded by forests, is easily accessible from the cities of Cegléd, Tápiószele and Abony, both by car and Volánbus services, just one hour from Budapest, in the heart of the country.
The village was founded in 1950, from the parts of Jeges, Újföld and Szőlősparcella that belonged to Tápiószelé and Tápiógyörgye at the time. It got the name Újssilvás from the abundant plum trees at that time.
From an agricultural point of view, the location of the village is very advantageous, because in addition to the vineyards and fruit plantations, the farmland also contains very rich values, for example, hops, which serve as the raw material for beer production, are grown here in an almost unique way in the country. In the last decade, the Újszilvási Ágyaspálinka Festival, which is becoming increasingly well-known, has been organized annually, the date of which usually falls in the middle of the spring season.
