EAWA - FHI 360 (Benin)

FHI 360 partners with the government and local health systems to strengthen prevention and treatment of HIV and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Benin. We use our extensive experience addressing global health challenges to support national efforts to create sustainable testing, treatment and data collection systems to end preventable morbidity and mortality from NTDs.

Benin is one of several countries that is part of the Ending AIDS in West Africa (EAWA) project, through which FHI 360 provides technical assistance to local health facilities, civil society organizations and other stakeholders as they strive for optimal HIV service delivery to clients. That assistance includes deploying peer educators to help clients learn more about HIV prevention and testing services and connect clients to care and treatment. EAWA also collaborates with health districts to strengthen viral load specimen collection and testing networks. The success of EAWA in Benin has led the project to expand its work from focusing on key populations to the general population.

FHI 360 is also providing technical assistance through the Act to End NTDs | West (Act | West) project, which works to control and eliminate NTDs, such as lymphatic filariasis, trachoma, schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis. Act | West partners with the government to integrate treatment across several sectors, including maternal and child health; water, sanitation and hygiene; nutrition; and education.
