Fpens is an educational local umbrella organization which is community based one. It was established in Mogadishu more than 20 years ago. FPENS comprises of 145 associate members representing local NGOs that came together, to revive and rebuild Somalia’s education sector at a difficult period in the country’s history by bringing together local education sector that shared its aims.

FPENS is a not-for-profit, non-governmental and non-partisan organization that was established in January 14,1999. FPENS seeks to build on the work of FPENS and is committed to addressing the gaps that currently exist in Somalia. FPENS seeks to unite organizations share our vision of eradicating illiteracy in all Somali regions, developing quality education and ensuring vulnerable and marginalized people have access to education under one umbrella that. FPENS mission is bold and urgent.

FPENS understands the importance of advancing the current formal and informal Somali education system as well as improving the knowledge of the community through active work, advocacy and networking and, most importantly, delivering quality education. FPENS understands that in order to eradicate illiteracy it is important to develop partnerships instead of operating in a vacuum. FPENS seeks to tap into these synergies and work together to provide education programs that answer the changing and dynamic needs of our society.
