Vouliwatch is an independent, non-profit initiative of open government, strengthening transparency and accountability and promoting democratic participation with the help of digital technology. Through Vouliwatch citizens can monitor and evaluate the legislative and parliamentary work, in an understandable and simplified way. They mainly have the possibility to publicly address questions to MEPs and they in turn answer and present their work. Our goal is to bring democratic participation and the concept of active citizenship into the digital age. We are getting information, looking for work, making friends and consuming online more and more. Why should democracy and accountability be left behind? Vouliwatch was founded in March 2014 as a politically independent, self-funded civic non-profit corporation. In a very short period of time, it has managed to establish itself as one of the leading initiatives in Greece in matters of transparency, open governance and the right of access to public information, with the development of relevant information campaigns and political pressure. In particular, Vouliwatch is an official member of the Alliance for Open Government (with an active advisory role in the preparation of the National Action Plan for Open Government 2016-2018), the United Nations Alliance against Corruption (UNCAC) and an informal network European Organizations fighting for the right of access to public information. It has also established the first International Parliamentwatch Network with similar initiatives from around the world.
