Liike Sports and Development Member

LiiKe – Sports & Development is a Finnish non-governmental organization established in 2001. The main purpose of the organization is to develop the lives of children and youth living in developing countries through sport and health education. Sport is the main tool used in all the development cooperation projects that LiiKe establishes together with its counterparts.

LiiKe aims to extend the number of children and youth in access to quality education and so forth to fulfilling life conditions and better opportunities to be selfreliant.

Sport attracts children and youth to participate classes and helps them to concentrate and focus on studies in crowded class rooms. During the fifteen years of action in Tanzania LiiKe has among other things built and maintained hundreds of sports’ fields to governmental schools and equipped them with balls, nets, goalposts, books, rackets etc.

LiiKe has together with its counterpart Sports Development Aid Tanzania trained teachers and peer coaches to keep quality sport classes and lead sport clubs and hold health education seminars. LiiKe has also played a significant role in building and developing the education path to become a professional in the field of sport in Tanzania. Together with the University of Jyväskylä a Master Degree Programme is being established to the University of Dar Es Salaam.
