All Austrian social insurance providers belong to the umbrella organization of social insurance providers. The umbrella organization follows the main association of Austrian social insurance providers, which existed until December 31, 2019.

The umbrella association's area of responsibility is regulated by law and largely corresponds to the previous tasks of the main association.

The umbrella organization plays a central role

the adoption of guidelines to promote the appropriateness and uniformity of the enforcement practice of the social insurance institutions,
the coordination of the enforcement activities of the social insurance institutions and
the performance of cross-agency administrative tasks in the area of social insurance;

The preparation and completion of tasks can be delegated to one or more social insurance providers.
