The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies is an independent regional non-governmental organization founded in 1993. It aims to support respect for the principles of human rights and democracy, analyze the difficulties of applying international human rights law, spread the culture of human rights in the Arab world, and promote dialogue between cultures within the framework of international conventions and covenants on human rights. Human.

In order to achieve these goals, the Center works on proposing and advocating for policies, legislation, and constitutional amendments that enhance international human rights standards, conducting research and advocacy activities by employing various national, regional and international mechanisms, teaching human rights with a special focus on youth, and building the professional capacities of human rights defenders. human rights. Since its establishment, the Center has regularly published books and periodicals dealing with issues of human rights and democracy in the Arab world.

CIHRS seeks to contribute to shedding light on the most important human rights problems and issues in the Arab countries, and to coordinate with the various concerned parties and non-governmental organizations in the region, and work together to raise public awareness of these issues and try to find solutions and alternatives that are compatible with international human rights law.
The Center enjoys special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, and observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. The Center is a member of the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Human Rights and the International Network for Exchange of Information on Freedom of Opinion and Expression (IFEX). He was awarded the French Republic Prize for Human Rights in 2007
