FIDAM is an independent research institute that is affiliated with the Mergentheim Diabetes Center and deals with medical, psychological and social issues relating to diabetes mellitus.

The research institute had its origins in 1983, when not only the Diabetes Clinic but also the Diabetes Academy was founded in Bad Mergentheim. One of the first projects was the development of a new training and treatment program for type 2 diabetes - MEDIAS 2 - which is now the standard program for training people with type 2 diabetes in Germany. The Diabetes Academy Research Institute was officially founded in 1998. Due to increasing national and international research projects, FIDAM GmbH was founded in 2006.
