Wirtschaftsfördergesellschaft Ostthüringen mbH

The Wirtschaftsfördergesellschaft Ostthüringen mbH is an efficient and reliable partner of cities and municipalities, municipal working groups and commercial companies. It was founded on March 27, 1991 as a municipal economic development company by the then shareholders, the districts of Altenburg, Schmölln, Greiz, Gera, the city of Gera, Wismut GmbH, the East Thuringia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gera and the Chamber of Crafts for East Thuringia. With the takeover of all shareholder shares by managing director Jürgen Kepke, the Wirtschaftsfördergesellschaft Ostthüringen mbH has been operating as a private company since January 1, 1996, which has expanded its field of activity beyond the borders of Eastern Thuringia to Central Germany.

Since July 1, 2023, Henryk Meschwitz has been the new managing director of the Ostthüringen Economic Development Corporation.

The WFG's fields of activity cover the two main areas of industrial and commercial land development as well as regional development in rural areas. They include both the conceptual developments and the control of the practical implementation phases.

The WFG has acquired great expertise in supporting funding-based projects, such as the joint task “Improving the regional economic structure” (GRW) or the numerous funding programs for the development of rural areas (including LEADER). The WFG is available to its partners from the application process to the project implementation through to the billing of the funding.
