About

The Court’s portfolio of international relations and its judicial development assistance is overseen by the Chief Justice, the International Development Committee comprised of Federal Court Judges and the Principal Registrar. Staffed by lawyers and experts in the management of international development projects, the Unit draw on the technical expertise within and beyond the Court to service the reform and development priorities of its partner courts.

The Court’s objective in collaborating with other jurisdictions is to promote respect for the rule of law, judicial independence and the development of judicial services particularly in the Asia and Pacific regions, and to ensure that the Court is properly placed to meet the highest standards internationally in the provision of judicial development services.

The Court conducts its international programs pursuant to Memorandum of Understanding or Letters of Agreement.  The Court currently has Memoranda of Understanding with the Supreme Court of Vanuatu, the Supreme Court of Indonesia, the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam and the Supreme and National Courts of Justice in Papua New Guinea.
